Student Leadership

Junior Leadership Team 2016-2017

The Junior Leadership Team takes an active role in the school. We get involved in governor meetings, run school events, support the staff and students, and most importantly act as ambassadors for the school.

Year 11 Buddies/prefects 2015 to 2016

The role of the Buddy is to help new Year 7s to get used to the school and for us to be their role models. We have done a lot of things to help out with the Year 7s such as:

Helping them with their homework during tutor time

Helping the tutor to sign planners

Helping the students with any problems they may be having

Making sure their first term at school is good and to a high standard

Helping them around the school if they get lost

We feel this is an excellent thing to be in our school as we are around about the same age group as them and they find it easier to talk to us about things that they might be uncomfortable talking to adults/tutors about.

Youth That Care

The Youth That Care (YTC) is the school’s peer counseling service. It is one of the longest running services in the country, beginning over 12 years ago, as an anti-bullying strategy. Trained students from year 9, 10 and 11 provide help and counseling each lunchtime in their room on the top floor of the Lake Block. It is particularly helpful for new students and continues to be one of our first responses in preventing and dealing with bullying. The service is managed by year 11 students and is supervised, during a weekly meeting, by a senior member of staff. The counsellors are trained to ensure client confidentiality and to recognise when matters need to be referred to staff. The YTC have a high profile in the school and are involved in assemblies, open events and activities with the new year 7 students. They also contribute to the PSHE programme leading sessions about preventing bullying.
